This program lets you merge your enthusiasm for language acquisition with your interest in historical exploration. By pairing one or two European languages with history studies, you'll unlock not only additional primary sources but also fresh insights into modern European societies and cultures.
For many students, the overseas year becomes the most memorable part of their studies. You'll have the chance to fully engage with the language and culture of your selected nation(s), while developing greater independence and self-assurance. Stepping beyond familiar boundaries won't just enhance your academic experience - it will fundamentally influence your personal growth.
Language selection options
Single language study (beginner or advanced level):
Options include French (advanced only), German, Russian, or Spanish.
Dual language study (one beginner, one advanced):
Advanced options: French, German, Russian, or Spanish
Beginner options: French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, or Serbian/Croatian
Dual advanced language study:
Choose any two from: French, German, Russian, Spanish
Your studies will be divided between the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures (two-thirds) and the Department of History (one-third).
