Lancaster's combined German Studies and Film program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA).
The German Studies component helps you develop advanced language abilities while exploring the German-speaking world within a global framework. In Film studies, you'll analyze cinema's artistic, cultural, and political significance in our increasingly visual society, while also exploring connections between modern art, theater, design, sound, and film.
During your first year, you'll investigate German language and culture alongside introductory Film Studies, while also choosing a complementary minor subject.
In your second year, you'll enhance your language proficiency while examining German-speaking nations' culture, politics, and history more thoroughly, alongside internationally-focused modules that encourage comparative European and global perspectives. These studies will be paired with additional Film coursework.
Your third year abroad in a German-speaking environment allows you to refine your language skills and cultural awareness, either through university study or professional work experience.
