The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry conducts extensive research on various mental health conditions, ranging from widespread to more uncommon yet serious disorders that typically emerge in childhood and frequently continue into adult life. Our studies focus on: autism spectrum conditions, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), behavioral conduct issues, mood disorders, substance abuse problems, obsessive-compulsive disorder, cognitive impairments, childhood trauma and abuse, and self-injurious behaviors.
Our primary objectives involve deepening knowledge about the origins of mental health conditions by examining environmental influences, genetic factors, brain mechanisms, medication effects, and cognitive-behavioral patterns, while developing effective interventions and preventive measures. Our investigations explore various risk elements (both biological and situational) related to disorder emergence and therapeutic approaches. Department researchers employ diverse scientific techniques, such as population health studies, genetic and behavioral analysis, brain imaging, psychopharmacology, and controlled treatment studies.
