You can pursue your research degree in the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences, where studies focus on uncovering the core mechanisms behind major psychiatric and neurological conditions. As one of the UK's largest university psychiatry divisions, we lead in clinical practice, education, and innovative research across various psychiatric fields. Our division provides academic opportunities in human genetics, psychiatric genetics, biological psychiatry, neurodegeneration, developmental psychopathology, bioinformatics, and biostatistics research. The division encompasses Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Optometry, with research spanning biochemistry, molecular genetics, cell biology, patient studies involving cognition and advanced brain imaging, clinical trials, and population-based epidemiology. Much of our work is conducted through the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics, and we house the NISCHR Biomedical Research Centre and the National Centre for Mental Health. Additionally, IPMCN collaborates with Cardiff University's Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Division, connecting our researchers with neuroscientists from the Schools of Biosciences, Psychology, and Optometry and Vision Sciences.
