Why choose this programThis accredited four-year Master's program explores Earth's formation and ongoing changes while emphasizing research methodology development. To tackle today's pressing planetary challenges, we must comprehend Earth's history and mechanisms. You'll cultivate expertise in fieldwork, data collection, analysis, and decisive problem-solving.We've collaborated with industry professionals to craft a degree that equips you with specialized geological competencies. We leverage our regional setting through frequent South Wales field excursions, studying geology's influence on local landscapes and industries.International expeditions are available too – previous destinations have included Spain and Cyprus. The MSci program offers (subject to academic achievement) a fourth research year working alongside School academics on cutting-edge projects. You'll refine advanced research capabilities and gain professional experience in scientific communication.Career opportunitiesGeologists hold vital positions in modern society. Their expertise enables sustainable resource location (water, energy, minerals), hazard assessment/mitigation, and construction site evaluation.A geology degree opens diverse career paths including engineering geology, hydrogeology, mineralogy, and environmental consulting. You'll also develop transferable skills valued across sectors like finance, education, and urban planning.Your Master's-level research expertise, innovative thinking, and initiative will prove valuable to academic institutions, government agencies, and private enterprises.
