Geophysics explores Earth's physical properties using scientific methods. This interdisciplinary field combines mathematics, physics, and geology, with opportunities to study astronomy, geography, and archaeology. At Southampton, students develop expertise in modern geophysics while acquiring specialized skills in geophysical analysis, geological interpretation, and mathematical applications. Completing the intensive one-year Foundation Year ensures admission to any of 16 engineering, mathematics, physics, or geophysics degree programs. This preparatory year covers fundamental concepts in mathematics, mechanical sciences, engineering fundamentals, and electrical principles.
