To tackle today's most pressing global challenges, we must comprehend Earth's historical patterns and geological mechanisms. Geologists apply insights from ancient climates and catastrophic events to help solve modern issues, ranging from global warming to natural hazards. Our Geology program delves into rock and mineral formation, evolutionary processes across geological eras, the origins of seismic and volcanic activity, and geology's contemporary relevance. You'll cultivate expertise in field research, data collection, analytical techniques, and decisive problem-solving. Leveraging our regional advantage, we conduct frequent field excursions across South Wales to examine geology's influence on local landscapes and industries. International field trips are also available - previous destinations include Spain and Cyprus. This four-year course offers qualified students a chance to spend one academic year at an overseas partner institution. Studying abroad provides invaluable cultural exposure, alternative academic perspectives, and exploration of diverse terrains and coastal formations. You'll build international networks while developing crucial global competencies like adaptability, problem-solving, and perseverance that enhance employability worldwide. Career opportunities Geologists occupy vital positions in modern society, enabling sustainable resource extraction, hazard mitigation, and infrastructure development. Degree holders can pursue diverse roles such as engineering geologist, water resource specialist, mineral expert, or environmental advisor. The program also equips graduates with transferable skills valued across finance, education, urban planning, and insurance sectors. Our alumni have secured positions with prominent organizations including the British Geological Survey, Environment Agency, mining corporations, and major engineering firms.
