Following your interests, you'll specialize in specific historical periods, from prehistoric times through the medieval era and beyond. Beyond studying ancient contexts, we'll show you how archaeological findings relate to modern issues, including current societal debates and heritage management practices.Our curriculum includes hands-on training in artifact analysis and environmental archaeology, plus valuable fieldwork experience with eight weeks of placements, usually on excavations. These unforgettable practical experiences occur during the summers after your first and second years, at sites both in the UK and abroad.In addition to field skills developed through placements and our excellent facilities, you'll cultivate specialized research abilities through a second-year independent study project. With guidance from our expert faculty, you'll design and complete your own archaeological investigation on a topic of your choice. Seminar groups typically include about 15 students and a faculty member, featuring various interactive formats like group discussions, collaborative work, and student presentations.
