The MPhil program provides one academic year for research, culminating in a dissertation of maximum 30,000 words. Students can design their own research path in consultation with their academic supervisor, who will guide their work. We also provide an MPhil in Creative Writing, enabling students to include original creative pieces in their postgraduate qualification.
Our PhD programs typically involve 3 years of full-time study, requiring a thesis of 60,000 to 100,000 words upon completion. Recent doctoral research has spanned the entire spectrum of Welsh-language literature, from medieval texts to contemporary works, exploring diverse areas like popular culture, feminist scholarship, and the study of 18th-century Interludes. Welsh-language research extends beyond Britain's borders, with Bangor University contributing significant studies on Welsh literary traditions in the Americas.

Program Duration - PhD: 2-3 years full-time or 5-6 years part-time, MPhil: 2 years full-time or 4-5 years part-time.
