As a postgraduate researcher, you'll become part of an interdisciplinary team in the School of Life Sciences, maintaining strong ties with industry partners and global research institutions. Our PhD students actively participate in the School's research community, focusing on diverse fields including global change ecology, conservation science, and animal behavior studies. You'll benefit from our extensive network of multidisciplinary academics across two specialized groups: the Applied Ecology Research Group (AERG) and the Behavioural Ecology Research Group. By integrating this expertise with broader specializations, we develop innovative projects tackling contemporary environmental challenges. Our research makes tangible contributions, from advancing scientific knowledge to influencing environmental policies and practical applications.

The Applied Ecology Research Group concentrates on evaluating, comprehending, and alleviating human-induced impacts like plastic pollution, climate shifts, invasive species, and urbanization on biodiversity and ecosystem services across terrestrial, freshwater, and marine environments. Our team employs cutting-edge methodologies, from ecological network assessments and ecosystem modeling to satellite tracking and GIS technologies, while blending interdisciplinary approaches that merge biological and ecological sciences with molecular biology, biogeochemistry, and microbiological techniques.
