Pursuing a research degree in the Faculty of Biological Sciences allows you to cultivate expertise as an autonomous investigator in your selected discipline. Guided by your principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors, you'll conduct pioneering research on specific biological challenges while joining a vibrant academic community employing cross-disciplinary methods to address contemporary scientific inquiries. During your doctoral studies, you'll enhance both your specialized research capabilities and broader professional competencies through structured training initiatives, seminar participation, and conference engagements.

Cardiac arrhythmias arise when the heart's electrical signals become disordered, impairing its blood-pumping efficiency. Factors like aging, specific medical conditions including heart failure, and rigorous athletic training can elevate arrhythmia risks.

Our research explores the underlying causes of arrhythmias, preventive measures to lower their occurrence likelihood, and optimal treatment approaches for persistent cases. We employ diverse methodologies across various scales to examine cardiac performance, ranging from genetic/protein expression analysis and their cardiac distribution patterns to sophisticated cellular and whole-heart visualization techniques utilizing optical and magnetic resonance imaging. These empirical findings are combined with multi-level computational simulations to achieve comprehensive insights into cardiac function during both normal and pathological states.
