Pursuing a research degree in the Faculty of Biological Sciences allows you to cultivate expertise as an autonomous investigator in your selected discipline. Guided by your principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors, you'll conduct pioneering research on specific biological challenges while joining a vibrant academic community employing cross-disciplinary methods to address contemporary scientific inquiries. During your doctoral studies, you'll not only deepen your specialized knowledge but also enhance professional capabilities through structured training initiatives, seminar participation, and conference engagements.
Proteins execute countless essential functions, forming the foundation of all biological processes. Proteostasis research examines the complete lifespan of proteins: their synthesis, folding, breakdown, and the pathological consequences when these mechanisms malfunction. The architecture of biological molecules and their assemblies fundamentally determines biological activity, making structural biology an indispensable discipline in modern life sciences. Our investigations focus on elucidating the configurations of biomolecules including proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids, along with their molecular complexes. This field also explores molecular dynamics, integrating concepts from molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, computational modeling, and simulation techniques.
