The Te Paetahi Akoranga Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) is an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program. This ITE certification is mandatory for aspiring teachers in New Zealand. Regulated by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, the degree prepares individuals for careers as certified early childhood educators. Alongside classroom instruction, learners must complete at least 12 weekly hours in an accredited early childhood environment to apply their knowledge. In addition to regular placements, students will complete an intensive practicum in a distinct setting from their weekly experience, which they must arrange independently. The required practicum durations are: First year - three weeks, Second year - four weeks, and Third year - four weeks. Upon completion, graduates will have developed skills in fostering relationships with children and adults, understanding learning processes, teaching methodologies, and curriculum content. The program also cultivates essential leadership, planning, and organizational abilities.
