This program provides students with essential skills to address current theoretical, policy, and practical challenges in youth work and studies, both nationally and internationally within community regeneration efforts. It features an internship component where students gain hands-on experience in Youth Work or Community Development. There are 15 spots available, and all candidates will be interviewed during the application process. Internships are hosted by various NGOs and voluntary groups in youth and community sectors.
This MA program prepares students to tackle modern theoretical, policy, and practice-oriented issues in youth work and community development across local and global contexts of social renewal. The curriculum serves as a critical platform for examining the intricacies of societal regeneration. It leverages the Department of Sociology's expertise in areas like inequality, social exclusion, welfare systems, political sociology, youth studies, community development, media sociology, and urban research. Each semester includes field visits to NGOs specializing in youth services, community development, and social revitalization.
The MA program collaborates with multiple partners in the Youth and Community sectors, requiring all students to complete a summer internship. Past students have interned with organizations including Novas Limerick, Limerick Youth Services, Northside Family Resource Centre, and COPE Galway.
