The medical field offers one of the broadest ranges of career paths for graduates. Physicians typically focus on patient care, whether in community practices or hospital environments, serving as the primary coordinators of healthcare teams.
Beyond clinical practice, medical professionals lead groundbreaking biomedical research, advancing knowledge of human biology, diagnostic techniques, and treatments. Some physicians specialize in epidemiology, while others contribute to pharmaceutical development, medical technology innovation, health insurance systems, or occupational health management.
UCC's medical program builds upon foundational sciences like Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry while prioritizing hands-on clinical training. A unique aspect involves small-group learning focused on patient interactions, developing essential skills in communication, medical history documentation, and physical examination.
Our School of Medicine continuously updates its curriculum to incorporate modern educational approaches. Students can personalize their education through diverse electives, ranging from scientific research to interdisciplinary studies (such as Medical Humanities or Narrative Medicine). Research forms a core component of our program, with all students undertaking a capstone research project before graduation.
Non-EU applicants are expected to have educational qualifications of a standard equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate
Duolingo English Test (DET): DET 120 with a minimum score of 120 in each individual section.
IELTS - International English Language Testing System/ IELTS Indicator Test: Minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum of 6.5 in each band
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - TOEFL iBT/TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition Test: TOEFL 90 (Listening 23; Reading 21; Speaking 22; Writing 23)
University of Cambridge: 176 overall with not less than 176 in each element of the test
Pearson PTE Academic: Minimum of 63 (with at least 63 for each item in the Communicative Skills section)
