The MSc in Industrial Pharmaceutical Sciences, Operations and Management is a specialized postgraduate program crafted to enhance career prospects in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors. Developed in collaboration with industry experts, this program equips graduates with the skills needed to thrive in the competitive job market, delivered jointly by the School of Pharmacy and Cork University Business School. It encompasses essential technical knowledge, regulatory compliance, operational strategies, and management principles tailored for the pharma and biopharma fields. The curriculum also addresses digital transformation, Pharma 4.0 methodologies, and lean six sigma principles, preparing students for the evolving demands of modern pharmaceutical manufacturing.

A key feature of this program is hands-on experience, including an 8-month paid industry placement (January to August) and access to cutting-edge biopharma and pharmaceutical production facilities at the School of Pharmacy. Students will also utilize advanced digital simulation tools at UCC's Assert Centre and the Cork Enterprise Training Board Life Sciences Facility in Carrigaline.

Through immersive laboratory sessions, workshops with industry-standard equipment, and real-world case studies, students will master foundational concepts. The program further enriches learning with guest lectures from industry professionals and core modules taught by faculty with extensive industry backgrounds in technical, regulatory, and operational domains.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have at least Second Class Honours Grade 2 in a primary honours’ degree (NFQ, Level 8) in any of the following relevant subject areas: chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences or science, healthcare science, technology, or process engineering. Eligible applicants may also be invited for an interview. Selection from among eligible applicants will be made according to the following criteria: • Performance in their primary degree • Personal statement Consideration under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be given to applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements but who have relevant professional experience in a suitable field. To demonstrate relevant professional experience, applicants will be assessed on the following criteria and an interview may also be required.
