This course examines diverse religious traditions including Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and various Christian denominations, while providing students with specialized study opportunities in indigenous faiths, Western esotericism, emerging religious movements, Japanese spiritual practices, religious anthropology, and Islamic perspectives on sexuality. Religions hold significant influence. Daily global news highlights religion's profound effects on societies and individuals worldwide. From India to Ireland to Iran, religious expressions continually evolve - some pursue alternative spiritual paths for personal growth, while others reinforce traditional beliefs amidst rapid societal changes. The Religions and Global Diversity program offers critical analysis of worldwide religious and cultural phenomena, upholding UCC's legacy of intellectual independence. Distinct from conventional theology programs, this course doesn't require religious affiliation nor aims to advocate for any faith. It appeals to anyone curious about religion's societal impact, regardless of personal spiritual beliefs.
