This Master of Science program offers two specialized tracks: the Environmental Health & Safety track, launched in 1999, and the Health Safety and Human Factors track, added in 2019. The program has earned strong recognition in both academic and professional circles. It holds accreditation from the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), and the Human Factors track qualifies graduates for full membership in the Irish Human Factors Ergonomics Society.
Industry interest in the Health and Safety & Ergonomics track has grown significantly, as highlighted by the Irish Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Ireland is seeing rising demand for advanced expertise in Ergonomics and Human Factors, particularly at the master's degree level.
The MSc program aims to equip students with:
foundations for continuous professional development,
analytical capabilities to assess emerging scientific and technical advancements in safety and ergonomics,
comprehensive expertise in their selected specialization area,
An honours bachelor degree (2.2 grade or higher) or equivalent in a Science, Engineering, Technology, Construction, Environmental Health or related discipline. Eligible candidates may be interviewed.
This MSc level programme, routinely engages in class based discussions using real life scenarios covering a wide variety of knowledge domains including law, engineering, science and psychology. Presentation skills are therefore required as candidates will be expected to debate with their colleagues and lecturers on a wide variety of risk related issues.
Students will also need to show excellent communication skills within a risk related work environment. Accordingly, it will be expected that international student applicants will have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or better, with strong evidence of fluency in written and spoken English gained through their professional experience.
