The one-year full-time MA in International Development is a master's program that equips students for careers in international development across community organizations, local governments, educational institutions, and NGOs. This program enables participants to examine modern theories of social transformation and development while critically assessing policies and practices in the field. It enhances essential competencies in analytical thinking, research methodologies, leadership, group collaboration, and the design, oversight, and assessment of development initiatives. Designed for experienced professionals with an undergraduate degree or equivalent credentials, the program welcomes those with development sector experience, whether in Ireland or internationally. Ideal candidates include project leaders, community organizers, government and agency personnel, pastoral workers, researchers, educators, volunteers, and advocates. The course also benefits academics from the Global South involved in development studies. Qualification Requirements
Undergraduate degree (2.2 or higher) in a development related discipline (e.g. Agricultural Science, Anthropology, Economics, Education, Engineering, Geography, Health-related discipline, Nutrition, Rural Development, Sociology or other Social Science etc) or a recognised international equivalent. Those with a professional background in work related to international development are particularly welcome to apply. In exceptional cases, applicants without a primary degree may be considered on the strength of their professional work experience, other qualifications and completion of a qualifying essay.
IELTS - 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each band; TOEFL internet-based test iBT: 90 with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in all other sections; Pearson Test of English - 63 with no less than 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section; Duolingo English Test (DET) - 120 with no less than 110 in literacy, conversation, and comprehension subscores and no less than 95 in production. (This lower production subscore applies to non-EU applicants only), Cambridge Proficiency Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English.
