The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies is a one-year full-time (or two-year part-time) degree program delivered through a mix of classroom instruction and independent study. Designed for graduates with prior training in foreign languages and linguistics, it enables advanced specialization in sociolinguistics, second language learning, corpus linguistics, multilingualism, language teaching methodologies, and global English studies. This program stands out in Ireland for two key reasons: its incorporation of Intercultural Studies, which broadens linguistic expertise to include cultural dimensions like intercultural communication and language-culture interactions, and its multilingual focus extending beyond English to include major world languages such as French, German, and Spanish. Students engage with cutting-edge research, novel methodologies, and develop critical academic skills to advance scholarship in applied linguistics and intercultural studies.
The curriculum combines mandatory core modules with elective options, ensuring both comprehensive coverage of fundamental concepts and the opportunity to tailor studies to individual research interests and professional aspirations.
