Biology explores living organisms, from genetic foundations to Earth's largest creatures, examining their functions, interactions, environments, and evolutionary processes while applying biomedical principles to clinical research. Students will master analytical and technical methods for assessing and enhancing human health, as well as investigating diseases. The curriculum parallels the preclinical phase of medical studies, teaching students to formulate inquiries, gather data, evaluate evidence through both theoretical study and hands-on lab work, and effectively communicate discoveries while honing digital competencies and research abilities. The Department excels in specialized fields including Biological Control, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Medical Mycology, Molecular Genetics, and Plant Biotechnology, with faculty recognized globally for their expertise. Recent hires have strengthened research capabilities in Immunology and Protein Chemistry. First-year students may select Bachelor of Arts electives like Economics, Spanish, or Anthropology, or opt for Bachelor of Science courses. A competitive transfer option exists from MH201 Science to MH208 Biological & Biomedical Sciences in second year for students who completed Biology, Mathematics, and two additional subjects, with admission contingent on first-year performance and secondary school examination scores.
