Geography explores Earth's surface through two primary lenses: as the science analyzing interactions between environmental elements like climate, vegetation, soil, and terrain; and as the study of human population distribution and behaviors influenced by social and environmental conditions. Systematic geographic research focuses on the positioning, spread, organization, and connections among related features. Regional studies, meanwhile, investigate all geographic aspects within specific locations. Regardless of methodology, certain specialized skills and techniques remain essential to geographic inquiry.
Mirroring the discipline's diversity and unique skill requirements, the Department provides coursework across three concentrations: Cultural Geography, Physical Geography, and Geomatics. Students can pursue either General or Four-year Bachelor's degrees in Arts or Science, along with B.A. or B.Sc. Honours programs.
