The Urban and Inner-City Studies program is an interdisciplinary Major focused on analyzing cities as vibrant, evolving spaces. Situated in a distinctive location, it acts as both an entry point for north end residents to access the University of Winnipeg and a bridge for UWinnipeg students to engage with the north end community. This program blends conventional urban studies with specialized courses exploring inner-city dynamics, including Indigenous urban experiences, immigrant and refugee narratives, and women's roles. Canadian cities remain hubs of significant challenges—from addressing suburban expansion to fostering inner-city renewal, from adapting to shifting demographics to navigating globalization and economic transformations. Urban areas also face growing issues of poverty, social marginalization, and political disenfranchisement. Through an interdisciplinary lens, the Urban and Inner-City Studies curriculum explores the political, economic, social, and spatial dimensions of these critical urban transformations.
