French provides a strategic advantage to excel in diverse professions, including federal and provincial government roles, teaching, translation, flight attending, speech therapy, business, customs, diplomatic support, foreign correspondence, museum/art gallery guiding, HR leadership, intelligence analysis, knowledge work, law, management, nursing, office administration, public service, radio broadcasting, and social work. Proficiency in French enriches both personal growth and professional prospects across all career trajectories. Our French Studies program offers 3-year BA (Major or Combined Major), 4-year BA (Major or Combined Major), and Honours BA options.
After building foundational skills, students can select from engaging courses exploring cultural, literary, and linguistic concepts, analyzing current affairs, translating various texts, studying classic and contemporary works from La Fontaine to Nobel laureates Le Clézio and Modiano, examining French-Canadian literary evolution, investigating bilingualism/multilingualism, mastering modern French vocabulary and syntax, and understanding linguistic structures.
