Our innovative thematic major in Indigenous Languages aims to preserve and revive languages like Cree and Ojibwe. These languages form the core of Indigenous wisdom and cultural identity. This interdisciplinary program equips students with knowledge about language revitalization, planning, and communication strategies. Learners will investigate factors behind language decline while developing or deepening their proficiency through community-based approaches. The curriculum explores the historical development of Indigenous languages and teaches methods for language recovery, highlighting successful preservation efforts by various communities.
Upon completion, graduates will become part of an expanding network of professionals committed to advancing Indigenous language education, research, and daily use - playing a vital role in cultural preservation efforts.
