The University of Waterloo's MA in Global Governance program transcends traditional academic boundaries by integrating multiple disciplines such as economics, political science, history, sociology, and environmental studies. This 16-month program includes two terms of coursework, a third term dedicated to a Major Research Paper (MRP) on a global governance topic of the student's choice, and a fourth term featuring an internship with organizations addressing global governance challenges in various sectors. Participants can also explore international exchange programs. The curriculum addresses pressing global issues like conflict resolution, humanitarian emergencies, economic disparities, and environmental sustainability.
The Waterloo Political Economy Group (WatPEG) unites scholars, graduate students, and researchers from the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, the Balsillie School, and CIGI who share an interest in political economy. Functioning as the Balsillie School's Global Political Economy research hub, WatPEG members employ diverse methodologies to examine international, comparative, and domestic political economy. Their research spans topics like global trade, financial systems, multinational corporations, food security, resource management, environmental economics, international institutions, emerging economies, social policy, economic diplomacy, and development. WatPEG faculty possess specialized knowledge of numerous regions including East Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America.
