The University of Waterloo's Department of Geography and Environmental Management (GEM) provides a dynamic graduate research setting for both master's and doctoral candidates. As the most research-intensive department within the Faculty of Environment, we focus on cultivating exceptional scholars in both theoretical and practical geography. Our PhD curriculum caters to those pursuing innovative geographical research, typically spanning three or more years. Through our collaboration with Wilfrid Laurier University's Geography and Environmental Studies department - known as the Waterloo-Laurier Graduate Program in Geography - we've established one of North America's most extensive geography graduate programs. This partnership enables students to investigate diverse research areas while participating in globally significant research initiatives. We maintain a strong commitment to research-driven graduate education, frequently involving students in nationally and internationally acclaimed research projects.
