Our program immerses students in independent research while expanding their engagement with a chosen Geography specialization. Research opportunities span these key thematic areas: Biogeography, Climatology, Economic Geography, Environmental Sustainability, Feminist Geography, GIS, Geomorphology, Historical Geography, Hydrology and Glaciology, Indigenous Geographies, Political Geography, Social/Cultural Geography, and Urban Studies.
The PhD program offers adaptable, research-focused study guided by student interests. Candidates from diverse academic backgrounds work alongside leading experts in geographical sciences, human geography, and computational geography. Graduates develop specialized knowledge that prepares them for academic, governmental, corporate, or nonprofit careers in their chosen research field.
