The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics explores the connections between human communities and the natural environment through research and education. Students gain exposure to diverse disciplines such as human geography, physical geography, environmental science, and geospatial technologies. Key research areas encompass Arctic ecosystems, metropolitan studies, global warming impacts, and geospatial analysis techniques.
Beyond undergraduate degrees, the department provides two-year thesis Master's programs (MA/MSc), a one-year interdisciplinary Master's concentration in The Anthropocene (MSc), and doctoral studies in Geography. MA/MSc candidates may also join the Science, Society and Policy collaborative initiative. All graduate programs adhere to the university's standard academic regulations.
Students must have an MA in history (or the equivalent) with a minimum average of 75 per cent (B+) before they can be considered for admission. The department may require a written or oral entrance examination.
