The Kinesiology program focuses on the scientific examination of human movement to enhance wellness and reduce the risk of disease or injury. This curriculum offers a comprehensive grounding in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, nutrition, and neuroscience, supplemented by biology, chemistry, and physics courses from the Faculty of Science. Emphasizing hands-on learning, students build skills through lab sessions, specialized facilities, practical assignments, and advanced practicum courses covering sports injury evaluation, cardiac rehab, and movement analysis. As part of one of North America's most extensive kinesiology departments, learners can select specialized electives, gaining expertise in fields like gait analysis, aerospace physiology, motor control, or spinal health. Assist an aspiring Olympian in recovering from a ligament injury. Enhance workplace safety by refining ergonomic practices. Improve mobility for children with cerebral palsy. Master techniques to address movement-related health issues—and with the co-op option, gain 20 months of paid professional experience. Alongside core science courses in biomechanics, neuroscience, and physiology, students can select from four kinesiology-focused minors or numerous campus-wide options. The program also includes preparatory courses for health professions like medicine and physiotherapy.
The Rehabilitation Sciences Specialization allows Kinesiology students to concentrate on rehabilitation studies. The Honours Kinesiology track effectively prepares graduates for advanced training in health fields such as physical therapy, chiropractic care, occupational therapy, athletic training, or clinical kinesiology. While the core curriculum already incorporates rehabilitation coursework, this specialization provides additional electives to ensure success in postgraduate health programs.
