Discover the intricate and captivating realm beneath your feet by delving into subjects like geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and hydrogeology. Over its four-billion-year existence, our planet has undergone transformations—some gradual (like mountain formation) and others abrupt and catastrophic (such as asteroid collisions). Earth Sciences will teach you about our planet's composition, from rocks and soil to water systems and climate change impacts. Humanity relies on Earth's resources, including minerals, fossil fuels, organic matter, gases, and drinking water. Who uncovers these precious hidden treasures? Geoscientists do. Specialize in Geology, Geophysics, or Hydrogeology to explore deeper. Enhance your learning through paid co-op work placements. Upon graduation, you'll qualify for Professional Geoscientist certification—prepared to create vital environmental safeguards, forecast natural hazards, improve water quality standards, and beyond. Develop job-ready skills. From your first semester, you'll work hands-on in our cutting-edge laboratories. Participate in global research: our faculty lead projects across 15 countries on five continents. Connect with fellow earth science enthusiasts. Forge friendships beyond classrooms and labs. The Earth and Environmental Science club (WATROX) arranges field excursions, social gatherings, and special events.
The Department of Earth and Environmental Science provides six specialization options across two undergraduate degrees. The Earth Science program offers three tracks (geology, geophysics, and hydrogeology) while Environmental Science features three concentrations (geoscience, water science, and ecology). Both programs are available through traditional and co-op study paths.
