The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology serves as a vital link between fundamental scientific research and clinical practice. A key focus of the department involves exploring disease processes at the molecular level. Faculty members study biochemical alterations related to cellular damage, along with investigating disease origins, development pathways, and progression patterns. Research spans multiple fields including heart and vascular disorders, immune system pathologies, neurological diseases, hormonal and metabolic conditions, cancer development, musculoskeletal disorders, population health studies, antimicrobial resistance, and infectious disease mechanisms.
The Pathobiology Specialist program offers students comprehensive exposure to modern medical research and groundbreaking scientific discoveries that have transformed our comprehension of illness. This program integrates principles from biochemistry, chemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and genetics to examine human disease. Program alumni often continue their education through advanced medical research degrees, leading to research positions in universities, biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical companies, or public health institutions. Understanding disease mechanisms at cellular and molecular levels also provides valuable preparation for diverse careers in public policy, regulatory bodies, legal professions, and environmental sciences.
