Biology explores the diversity and complexity of life. It touches many parts of daily existence: how we interact with nature, what we eat, and how our bodies function. In today's world, lacking biological understanding puts you at a disadvantage, as biological discoveries drive societal progress. At Langara, biology courses cover all dimensions of life - from cellular components to complete ecological systems. Students gain comprehensive knowledge across biological disciplines while specializing in areas like ecology, microbiology, or genetics to align with their passions and professional aspirations.
Recent decades have seen explosive growth in biological knowledge and career prospects for graduates. Depending on your specialization, opportunities span research, teaching, science communication, healthcare, environmental protection, forensic science, and beyond. Fields like biotechnology and environmental science represent some of Canada's most rapidly expanding economic sectors.
Students must have a BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent).
Admission to the Diploma in Biology (Co-operative Education) follows the same general requirements as for other Langara programs.
To be admitted to and participate in the Co-operative Education Option, you must:
Be enrolled in three program courses (minimum nine credits) or more, not including EXPE 2300 (formerly BUSM 2300/COOP 2300);
Achieve and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.6 in each term;
Successfully complete an employability assessment interview with a Co-operative Education Officer; and
Complete EXPE 2300 (formerly BUSM 2300/COOP 2300) with a minimum 'C' grade.
