The Bachelor of Science program, including Honours, Major, and Minor options in Biology, focuses on practical, integrated learning experiences. With intentionally limited class sizes, students benefit from personalized attention that nurtures strong mentor relationships. A defining characteristic of the Biology curriculum is its adaptability.
While the Major follows a structured foundational curriculum, students can customize their studies by choosing specialized courses. The department offers particular strengths in Organismal Biology, Ecology, Molecular/Cellular Biology, and Microbiology/Virology, allowing students to concentrate in these areas. Additionally, students may incorporate relevant electives from complementary disciplines like Fisheries, Forestry, Geography, or Anthropology to fulfill degree requirements. Senior students may have the opportunity to undertake an extensive research project under faculty guidance, subject to availability.
The Major program appeals to those pursuing careers in education, advanced academic studies, professional fields including healthcare and law, or scientific roles within biological and environmental sectors.
The Minor option specifically caters to students preparing for teaching careers in elementary or secondary education with a focus on science instruction.
