Biology explores the science of living organisms. Never before has this field been so crucial to humanity's well-being and the future of Earth. Biological research has extensive real-world uses: from comprehending human physiology to enhancing healthcare and environmental resources, addressing ethical dilemmas, and understanding Earth's interconnected ecosystems. Groundbreaking developments in biology happen frequently as researchers globally employ innovative methods and theories.
The Biology Specialist and Major programs provide students with fundamental knowledge in key areas including cellular/molecular biology, ecology, biodiversity, evolution, physiology, and genetics, supplemented by mathematics, chemistry, and statistics (for Specialists) or chemistry (for Majors). These adaptable programs offer multiple course options that fulfill degree requirements while enabling students to pursue diverse biological interests and gain comprehensive life sciences training. Upper-year students enroll in specialized biology courses and may select cross-disciplinary offerings. Final-year students complete intensive, research-oriented courses through departments like Cell & Systems Biology and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, which may involve seminars, independent projects, or fieldwork. The programs allow specialization in plant/microbial or animal biology. Graduates develop analytical and practical skills suitable for various science careers, including advanced studies in biology or medicine. The Biology Minor introduces students to core concepts in cellular/molecular biology, ecology, evolution, and physiology.
Students from different countries should have qualifications equivalent to Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Six 4U/M courses, including:
