Biology explores living organisms, examining their composition, operations, development, beginnings, evolutionary processes, and geographical spread. Among scientific disciplines, biology likely has the strongest connection to our daily experiences. We constantly encounter biological subjects in media coverage - from genetic modification and ecosystem preservation to contamination, illnesses, immune system studies, social dynamics, and demographic changes.
Our curriculum provides exceptional hands-on research experiences for undergraduates, both in field settings and laboratories. Students can participate in diverse biological field courses at the Bonne Bay Marine Station adjacent to Gros Morne National Park, Terra Nova National Park in eastern Newfoundland, and Memorial University's Harlow Campus in England.
Those working toward a B.Sc. with a biology major can specialize in one of these concentrations:
applied ecology and conservation
marine and freshwater life
biological research methods
health sciences biology
comparative organism studies
evolutionary ecological systems
molecular, microbial and cellular biology
Beyond major, minor and honors biology programs, we offer combined degrees in:
biology and behavioural neuroscience (B.Sc. honors)
biochemistry and cell biology (B.Sc. honors)
biology and Earth sciences (B.Sc. honors)
biology and psychology (B.Sc. honors)
biology and statistics (B.Sc. honors)
Duration: Four years
