The Master's program in Indigenous Educational Leadership from the Department of Educational Administration offers a challenging course-based specialization, created to assist both current and future leaders within Indigenous communities and educational institutions. Participants engage with modified versions of standard courses that incorporate Indigenous educational frameworks, with enhanced focus on Indigenous scholarly viewpoints and instruction by educators with pertinent expertise. Distinct aspects of the IELC program include comprehensive academic support services, guidance from an Indigenous leaders' advisory council, and predominantly Indigenous faculty (many of whom are EADM alumni). The 24-month curriculum features eight online courses complemented by two Summer intensive sessions.
This structured program enables learners to develop specialized knowledge in areas of individual interest, with flexible scheduling options including part-time study for working professionals and full-time enrollment alternatives. In recent years, over 100 participants have accessed graduate-level education within their local communities (including First Nations territories), studying alongside colleagues from their school districts in programs customized to address their specific educational community requirements.
