The Indigenous Educational Leadership cohort within the Masters of Educational Administration program offers a challenging course-based specialization, created to empower both current and emerging leaders in Indigenous communities and educational settings. Participants engage with modified versions of standard courses that incorporate Indigenous educational frameworks, emphasizing Indigenous scholarly viewpoints while being guided by instructors with specialized expertise. Distinctive aspects of the IELC include comprehensive academic support, guidance from an Advisory Group of Indigenous education leaders, and instruction primarily delivered by Indigenous faculty (many of whom are EADM alumni). The 24-month program consists of eight online courses complemented by two Summer symposia.
Research forms the foundation of this program. Thesis Program participants aim to develop and defend an original research project as their capstone achievement.
The program accomplishes its goals by providing accessible learning experiences that promote academic success through coursework and the completion of a research-based thesis. All students complete coursework blending theoretical knowledge with practical application. Further objectives are met through various program features and enrichment activities: demanding academic work, involvement in Tri-Agency and other funded research initiatives, hands-on learning via labs and global study opportunities, conference engagement, collaborative publishing and presentations, and seminar facilitation.
