The Food and Bioproduct Sciences program offers a distinctive interdisciplinary approach, combining biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, and engineering to create food and bioproducts from plant, animal, and microbial sources.
This comprehensive program enables students to explore key challenges in Canada's agricultural sector, such as:
enhancing conventional foods and processing methods,
creating innovative functional foods and nutraceuticals through cutting-edge technologies, and transforming agricultural byproducts into high-value bioproducts.
These priorities align with modern concerns about renewable resources, environmental sustainability, water purity, food security, and public health. The curriculum highlights the strong connection between microbiology and food/bioproduct sciences in manufacturing, quality control, and safety measures.
