Pursuing geology graduate studies at the University of Regina means working with distinguished faculty in our Master's and PhD programs. Our MSc degrees hold national and international recognition, qualifying graduates for membership in Canadian professional geoscience organizations.

Their expertise spans hard and soft rock analysis, geofluid dynamics, mineral and hydrocarbon resources, and environmental geoscience. The Geology Department provides graduate programs culminating in an MSc degree. Specialization options encompass Quaternary and soil research; Canadian Shield geochemistry, igneous/metamorphic processes, and structural geology; Phanerozoic sedimentology of carbonates, clastics, and evaporites; plus energy and mineral resource studies including coal, petroleum, mineralization, geothermometry, fluid inclusions, isotopes, and uranium. The department maintains specialized resources for Western Canadian research projects. Collaborative ties with Saskatchewan Industry and Resources facilitate exceptional fieldwork opportunities in the Shield region and access to sedimentary core samples and Phanerozoic rock data. The Saskatchewan Geological Society contributes expert professionals who enhance our department's capabilities. On campus, we collaborate closely with the Energy Research Unit.
Applicants must have a graduating average of at least 70 per cent from a four-year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent).
