The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics explores the connections between human communities and the natural environment through both research and education. Learners gain exposure to diverse disciplines such as human geography, physical geography, environmental science, and geospatial technologies. Key research areas encompass Arctic ecosystems, metropolitan studies, global warming impacts, and geospatial analysis techniques.
Beyond bachelor's degrees, the department provides two-year thesis Master's programs (MA/MSc), a one-year interdisciplinary Master's concentration in The Anthropocene (MSc), and doctoral studies in Geography. MA/MSc candidates may also enroll in the collaborative Science, Society and Policy initiative. All graduate programs adhere to the university's standard academic policies and procedures.
To be admissible to the master's program, the student must hold a BA with honors in geography or in a related discipline with an academic record indicating at least (B+) or the equivalent. Candidates whose bachelor's degree with honors (or the equivalent) is in an area other than geography may be admitted for a qualifying period, during which they must take selected courses required in the department's BA with honors program.
