The Institute of the Environment provides a master's degree program in Environmental Sustainability through both a Collaborative Program and an interdisciplinary Master of Science (MSc). The MSc equips future professionals and researchers with the expertise to address complex environmental issues through regulatory and policy approaches. Students develop core competencies in environmental sustainability across scientific, legal, economic, and policy domains, while mastering interdisciplinary methodologies to tackle urgent ecological challenges.
The program offers two pathways: an MSc with thesis or an MSc with research paper. The research paper track can be finished in one year of full-time enrollment, while the thesis option typically requires two years. Research paper students may extend their studies by an additional term if necessary to meet program requirements.
Through partnership with the University of Ottawa's CO-OP office, the Institute offers limited CO-OP placements. Eligible students must apply for this option during their first term. The CO-OP program enables participants to gain hands-on experience through two paid work terms.
