The Department of Classics and Religious Studies (Religious Studies division) explores religious phenomena through academic instruction and investigation, approaching them with the same rigor applied to other observable human experiences.
Key disciplines employed in religious studies include historical, sociological, psychological, and anthropological approaches. This field of study acknowledges diverse religious traditions and expressions within society while analyzing their interconnections.
Scholars investigate religious meanings by systematically comparing various forms of religious expression across different time periods, maintaining an objective perspective where no single tradition holds privileged status.
Our Department comprises two distinct areas: Classics and Religious Studies. The Classics division focuses on ancient languages, archaeology, historical studies, literary works, along with the religious beliefs and mythologies of Greek and Roman civilizations. The Religious Studies division examines global faith systems, incorporating anthropological, sociological, and psychological perspectives on religion, while also considering ancient religious practices.
