The Department of Philosophy provides MA programs (both thesis and non-thesis options) and PhD programs in Philosophy, available in English or French. In line with University guidelines, students can choose to study in either official language.
The Department is involved in joint programs for Women's Studies (MA level), Medieval and Renaissance Studies (MA level), and Canadian Studies (PhD level). Additional details about these programs can be found under "Admission Requirements."
Thanks to its expertise in key fields, bilingual nature, and location in Canada's capital, the University of Ottawa is exceptionally well-suited to provide a specialized Canadian Studies program at the doctoral level. This program caters to PhD candidates in specific humanities and social sciences disciplines who want to enhance their specialized training with interdisciplinary perspectives.
Candidates are admitted to the PhD on the basis of an MA in Philosophy with a minimum "B+" average.
