The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics explores the connections between human communities and the natural environment through research and education. Students gain exposure to diverse disciplines such as human and physical geography, environmental science, and geospatial technologies. Key research focuses include Arctic ecosystems, metropolitan studies, global warming impacts, and geospatial analysis techniques.
Alongside bachelor's degrees, the department provides graduate options including a thesis-based MA, coursework or thesis MSc, and a Geography PhD program. The doctoral program also collaborates with Science, Society and Policy studies. All graduate programs follow standard university academic policies. Detailed information is available through departmental resources.
The university's expertise in pertinent fields, bilingual environment, and capital location make it ideal for a specialized Canadian Studies PhD track. This interdisciplinary option enhances doctoral candidates' disciplinary training in humanities and social sciences with broader national perspectives.
Students may be admitted to the PhD program on the basis of a master's degree or its equivalent in geography or a related discipline, with an academic record indicating at least a (B+) average or the equivalent.
