The Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies provides engaging bilingual interdisciplinary programs examining topics concerning women, gender, power dynamics, and diversity. Students investigate critical subjects including globalization, transnational issues, sexuality, gender identity, disability studies, colonial impacts, Indigenous perspectives, labor rights, reproductive justice, and systemic racism. The curriculum combines theoretical frameworks with practical applications to foster intellectual growth, critical thinking skills, and collaborative work toward social equity and change.
Students gain access to renowned academics through initiatives like the Joint Chair in Women's Studies, a partnership between Carleton University and the University of Ottawa's Echo Chair in Women's Health. The Institute welcomes the Bank of Montreal Visiting Scholar in Women's Studies, who serves as an accessible mentor for student discussions. Additionally, research opportunities are available at the Canadian Women's Movement Archives housed in the University of Ottawa's Morisset Library.
