The MA in Linguistics program emphasizes a research-focused approach. Students engage in innovative studies across multiple linguistic fields, covering fundamental theoretical domains (such as phonology, morphology, and syntax) as well as interdisciplinary areas (including historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and cognitive linguistics).
The Linguistics Department proudly provides both Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in Theoretical Linguistics. Our scholars conduct pioneering research across diverse linguistic specialties, spanning core theoretical disciplines (e.g., phonology, morphology, syntax) and integrated fields (e.g., historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics). The department actively promotes gathering firsthand data by working with speakers of lesser-studied and at-risk languages, while more students are successfully undertaking projects using experimental and corpus-based methods. All degree tracks involve coursework, comprehensive exams (for PhD candidates), thesis proposal development, and the creation, composition, and defense of a thesis.
The M.A. curriculum encompasses coursework, thesis proposal formulation, and the investigation, writing, and presentation of a thesis.
Program Length - 2 years.
