The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) provides a Master of Arts (MA) program in Bilingualism Studies, designed to deliver advanced training in various fields of applied linguistics. This includes studies in bilingualism and multilingualism, cutting-edge methods and technologies for teaching second languages to adults, evaluating adult second language proficiency, as well as language policy development.

Courses are available in both English and French. Participants must complete one mandatory course in each language, while elective courses can be taken in either.

Following University of Ottawa guidelines, students may submit assignments, research papers, theses, and exam responses in either French or English. The program accommodates both full-time and part-time enrollment, offering three completion paths: thesis-based MA, research paper-based MA, or course-based MA.

To be admitted to the MA program in Bilingualism Studies, candidates must have one (1) of the following:

An honours bachelor's degree or equivalent in Second Language Teaching / Didactique des langues secondes, in Applied Linguistics or in a related discipline.
A three-year bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics or a related discipline in addition to a university-level, university-administered advanced certificate in TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages), representing a minimum of 30 units.
The minimum admission average is 70% (B), calculated in accordance with graduate studies guidelines.
