Our Master's program in applied linguistics explores linguistic concepts and research techniques, with an emphasis on the diverse aspects of second language acquisition. This encompasses instructional approaches and techniques for teaching additional languages. You'll conduct your research with guidance from a supervisor specializing in your chosen area. The program provides both thesis and project pathways.
Learning Objectives
Participants in this program will:
acquire advanced understanding across various applied linguistics and second language education subjects
establish a strong foundation in contemporary linguistic theories explaining language learning and progression
gain comprehensive knowledge about the processes and systems underlying language acquisition and usage, along with their instructional applications
cultivate proficiency in multiple research approaches relevant to applied linguistics, encompassing experimental design and data analysis
expand expertise in specialized linguistic domains such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, sociolinguistics, and Indigenous language preservation
develop the capacity to make meaningful contributions to applied linguistics and related academic fields
As an MA in Applied Linguistics student, you'll obtain advanced education in formal linguistics alongside SLA theories and language teaching methodologies. You can pursue individualized research objectives through coursework and either a thesis or substantial research project. Our program offers both thesis and non-thesis options to accommodate diverse student needs.
