The Community Health Sciences (PhD) program equips you for professional roles in teaching community health sciences, mentoring future researchers, developing and leading significant research initiatives, and providing expert guidance in healthcare policy and planning. Receive comprehensive interdisciplinary education in population health sciences principles and methodologies, along with their practical implementation in public health and preventive medicine.
In 1987, the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM) joined forces with the Division of Community and Northern Medicine (CNM) to establish the Department of Community Health Sciences. This merger combined the strengths and focus areas of both units, resulting in a dynamic department recognized nationally for outstanding teaching, research, and community engagement.
The Department of Community Health Sciences is committed to generating, safeguarding, and sharing knowledge about population health, thereby enhancing the physical, mental, cultural, societal, and economic welfare of communities in Manitoba, across Canada, and globally.
